How to Adjust your Email Notifications

Hi guys,

I have a few housekeeping type things to cover about the blog. First of all, I’m leaving soon for vacation (yay). Due to that, there won’t be any blog post next week (boo). My next post will likely be on August 6th or 7th, and hopefully it will include some amazing photos from our Alaskan cruise!

Secondly, I’d like to let you all in on a little subscription secret.

I know that today’s DIY post is out of left field. Crafting and design are a big part of my life (as you may have guessed from The Decorative Writer), and I am toying with the idea of making it a bigger part of my blog. So if you love that post, definitely leave a comment to let me know! If it’s not your cup of tea, that’s fine too. If it actually annoys you, there’s a solution for that:

If you’re subscribed to email notifications of my blogs and aren’t interested in certain types of posts, you can unsubscribe to just specific categories so that you don’t get emails about them. I recently spent several hours updating said categories so that no posts overlap. (You can check those out at the bottom of my sidebar.) Every single post is put into one category, and one category only. So if you’re a writer and all you want are posts about writing, you can subscribe only to those. If you’re not a writer, you can subscribe to all posts except those. It’s totally up to you!

[Note: If you aren’t signed up for email notifications but want to be, you have two options. 1) Put your email in the “subscribe” widget in the sidebar (right) to quickly sign up for notifications on all posts. 2) Follow the steps below to pick and choose what types of posts you get emails for.]

Here’s how:

To manage category subscriptions, you need to be a “registered user” of my website. So if all you’ve done is enter your email address in the sidebar, you’re not registered (yes, even if you get email notifications of new posts). To become a registered user, scroll down to the footer at the very bottom of my site. See the section that says “Meta”? Click on “Register,” which is the first option. You will be prompted to enter your email and a user name.

After that, you’ll get an email with a password. Follow the prompts to “log in” to my site (also in the Meta footer). Once you’ve logged in, there will be an option on the left panel called “Subscribe2.” Click that to adjust all of your subscription settings: what type of emails you get, whether you want to be automatically subscribed to new categories, and which categories you want to include and exclude.

This way, you can get the emails you want – and only the emails you want.

    Have fun on your cruise! It’s super wonderful in the Northwest this time of year – make sure you bring a coat though! You might not need it every day, but it’s better safe than freezing.
